Regular examinations help detect and prevent dental and some health issues before they become serious. As part of your examination, Dr. Hongo does an oral cancer screening, checks for gum disease, and does a visual evaluation for tooth decay. If you do not have current x-rays, you may require having digital x-rays taken as part of your examination. X-rays are used to detect decay, cysts, tumors, and other problems that can't be seen visually. Dr. Hongo may also use an instrument called a Diagnodent to diagnose small cavities that sometimes can go undetected in adults and teenagers. This instrument is used only as a tool to confirm that decay is present or not present.
